This field, Type of Reporting Source, has been a “back and forth” within our registry regarding how we interpret coding.

For example, say we have a patient that has outpatient/inpatient surgery to diagnose a cancer; however, all staging and treatment information is done in a MD’s office or onc or RT office. Majority of the source documents to abstract the case that contains all information on this tumor is in the MD, Onc or RT record, would we still chose 1 (inpatient/outpatient) as type of reporting source (since the codes are hierarchical) or do we chose a code for MD office or RT/Onc; depending on where the majority of the info for abstracting this tumor.
