The North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR) is seeking qualified candidates for a Program Manager of Standards. This is a full-time salaried, exempt position, with the opportunity to work remotely or in-person in Springfield, IL. Some travel is required.

Position Summary and Responsibilities

The Program Manager of Standards supports NAACCR’s standardization efforts, including developing and promoting uniform data standards and establishing best practices, standards, and guidelines for central cancer registry operations. Acts as liaison with professional organizations, regulatory/government groups, standards organizations, and the broader cancer surveillance community. Position responsibilities include:

  • Provides professional support and subject matter expertise for the activities of the NAACCR Standardization and Registry Development Steering Committee (SRD SC) and other related committees, work groups, and task forces involved in data standardization and establishing standards and guidelines for registry operations.
  • Works with the SRD SC and other stakeholders to develop and promote efficient and effective registry standards.
  • Supports the annual change management process for NAACCR data standards. Serves as a liaison between the Mid-Level Tactical Group and NAACCR technical work groups to ensure coordination and effective communication.
  • Coordinates and manages the standards development and implementation schedules in consultation with relevant NAACCR leadership and volunteers. Monitors compliance with established schedule.
  • Oversees the Implementation Guidelines Task Force and ensures implementation guidelines and other resources are made available by established deadlines.
  • Establishes relationships with central registries, professional associations, national and international stakeholders, vendors, standards development organizations, national government groups, and opinion leaders to advance the NAACCR standards.
  • Communicates implementation plans and status to staff, NAACCR leadership, and membership on a regular basis.
  • Works with the NAACCR Program Manager of Informatics and Registry Development to establish recognition for NAACCR as a terminology standard in the informatics industry and to ensure NAACCR data standards are developed to facilitate interoperability with other health data standards.
  • Provides expertise and creates training materials involving cancer registration standards, guidelines, and implementation.
  • Represents NAACCR as an active member of outside technical groups.
  • Provides support for NAACCR initiatives related to standards.
  • Participates in other activities that contribute toward the development of NAACCR and the cancer surveillance community.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in public health or a related field or equivalent work experience is required. Must be a certified Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) in good standing with the National Cancer Registrars Association (NCRA). Minimum of 5 years of cancer registry experience; background in hospital and central cancer registries preferred. Project management experience preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of cancer registry and surveillance standards, developing standard vocabularies, and cancer registry operations. Must have excellent interpersonal communication (listening, written, and oral) skills and the ability to present publicly to a wide variety of audiences.

Starting salary is commensurate with experience and determined based on the candidate’s knowledge, skills, experience, as well as budget availability.
