Program Committee Approves 2010 Conference Theme:
"Renewed Collaboration: A Modern Paradigm for Cancer Surveillance,"
will explore how existing and future cancer
surveillance activities can collaborate across disciplines, jurisdictions, and
organizations in order to enhance relationships, joint initiatives, and mutual
learning.
Click here for a description of the theme concept...
Collaboration is defined as
‘a recursive process where two or more people
or organizations work together in an intersection of common goals — for
example, an intellectual endeavor that is creative in nature — by sharing
knowledge, learning and building consensus.’ (
Collaboration. Wikipedia. 22
September 2009.). While the benefits
of collaboration are generally well recognized, clearly articulated and
sustained multiorganizational commitments are difficult to achieve.
Currently, opportunities to apply new
interventions have emerged throughout North America,
placing a greater need for more timely and diverse surveillance information
products in order to better inform and monitor cancer control activities. However,
the ability to provide relevant and timely cancer surveillance information to a
broad range of stakeholders is a demanding responsibility. Information needs
and their delivery to groups of stakeholders are often diverse, requiring an
understanding of the intended recipients.
To address such needs, the sharing of resources and knowledge is essential.
Central to these advancements is collaboration. Relationships, joint
initiatives and mutual learning can be leveraged to enhance the capacities and
contributions of each partner such that the collective work is greater than the
sum of individual parts. The program for the 2010 NAACCR Annual Conference is
designed to explore the role, opportunities, and challenges of collaboration.

Québec Holiday Celebrated June 23-24, 2010: French
Canadians express their cultural pride and rich heritage through colorful
parades and lively parties on June 23rd and 24th marking Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day. Read more...
These festivities combine
the ancient rites of the summer solstice - a period of light and hope - with
the traditional celebration in honor of the Patron Saint of French Canadians,
who was officially proclaimed as such by His Holiness Pope Pius X in
1908. Though the Québec holiday is officially June 24th,
festivities begin on the 23rd. We’re excited that the
NAACCR Annual Meeting in Québec City in 2010 will allow delegates to experience
all the excitement and fun of this celebration. On the evening of June 23rd
there are scheduled activities taking place from 8:00 p.m. at the “Parc des
Champs-de-Bataille”, on the Plains of Abraham, inclusive of a bonfire, concert
and fireworks display. These activities are free of charge and open to
all. Over these festive days most restaurants, shops and services are
open, however the town is busy and restaurant reservations are a must.
